Regional library from Calarasi equipped with books!
Reading is an activity which is not attracted to most of the Moldovans due to the lack of books on the shelves of the libraries, especially literature in Romanian language. That is the result showed by the public opinion. The last poll shows that each third Moldovan forgot the last time he held a book in his hand, most of the time, the reason which was being vocalized was lack of time.

In the framework of “For the book of Moldova” campaign; “Edelweiss” Foundation donated to Calarasi library more than a 1000 books in Romanian. Mr. Vlad Plahotniuc, the founder of “Edelweiss” Foundation, attended the event and declared: “the supply of books is a stringent problem, may be not as important to be on the parliament priority list of discussions, but I think it is important as the libraries receive less and less books, this meaning we invest too little in culture”.

The teacher Rodica Gavrilita comes to the libraries at least three times a week. Together with her three daughters she is considers being the member of the most knowledgeable family in the region. “I try to read at least 60 pages a day. A day without a book is like a day on a deserted island for me.”

Only one out of four people living in Calarasi drop by the library- the majority of them being the pupils. The director of the library, Mrs. Galina Agafita is sure that the library will have more readers: “When no money is invested in purchase of books, no readers come to the library to reread the books that he already read.

Edelweiss Foundation will distribute more than 16 thousand books. Donations to Anenii Noi, Stefan Voda and Straseni libraries have been made already.
