An emotional flash mob took place today in Chisinau within the information campaign against domestic violence “Protected Families” launched by the Vlad Plahotniuc’s “Edelweiss” Foundation. Over 2.040 purple ribbons representing exactly the number of family abuses reported since the beginning of year until now in the Republic of Moldova were distributed to passersby.

“The purple ribbon is the international symbol of the fight against domestic violence”, explained the Vlad Plahotniuc’s “Edelweiss” Foundation volunteers, which organized the information action.
“We know the number of cases reported, but we do not know how many other cases of family violence have occurred, how many victims are suffering today, but who did not know or were afraid to report these abuses. We have distributed only 2.040 ribbons, but the number of women and children victims of domestic violence is certainly higher. It is for them we promote all the ways in which they can apply for help, support, assistance”, said the Executive Director of Edelweiss, Lara Moraru.

The “Protected Families” national campaign was launched on August 16 and aims to inform as much people as possible on the ways the victims of domestic violence can ask for help from consultants, psychologists and authorities.

The today's event was held under the motto “Together we make the world purple” in Cathedral Park near the Triumphal Arch, which is a symbol of bravery, courage and victory.
Several centres will be opened soon within the national information campaign, where domestic violence victims can receive free psychological and legal counselling.
