Vlad Plahotniuc’s “Edelweiss” Foundation has launched today, August 16, a national informational campaign against domestic violence. Under the slogan “Protected Families”, the campaign aims to make a real contribution to preventing, detecting and resolving cases of abuse against children and women in Moldova.

Vlad Plahotniuc’s “Edelweiss” Foundation has launched today, August 16, a national informational campaign against domestic violence. Under the slogan “Protected Families”, the campaign aims to make a real contribution to preventing, detecting and resolving cases of abuse against children and women in Moldova.

The information campaign is based on a partnership between Vlad Plahotniuc’s “Edelweiss” Foundation and the Ministry of Labor, Family and Social Protection of Moldova, and focuses on nationally promoting the ways of standing against domestic violence and helping the victim of family violence to all social classes.

“Vlad Plahotniuc’s Foundation will be actively involved. Through this campaign, we will join and support the efforts of the Ministry and non-governmental organizations for protecting families to help victims of domestic violence. We intervene particularly to make the ways to prevent cases of domestic violence nationally known, and also to provide psychological counseling and help for those in need. We are all aware that time cannot be turned back – this cases of abuse leave psychological scars, cause traumas, and the victims should be supported as much as possible”, said Lara Moraru, executive director of Vlad Plahotniuc’s “Edelweiss” Foundation.

“Protected Families” campaign begins by promoting single national number 116 111. This phone number is meant for children as well – here can be reported cases of abuse against minors, can be requested the involvement of authorities or psychological counseling. “We start a nationwide informing and we promote this phone number including through media campaigns and by broadcasting social TV spots”, said Vlad Plahotniuc’s Foundation representatives.

Subsequently, several centers that will provide free specialized psychological counseling and free specialized legal counseling for victims of domestic violence will be launched in this process.
According to official data offered by the Ministry of Labor, Family and Social Protection, the number of cases of violence against children has significantly increased as of 01.01.2016. In 2015 there were 3471 cases of violence, neglect and child exploitation, out of which 428 cases of physical violence, 72 sexual violence and 468 psychological violence.
