Today two school libraries from Cimislia region received book donation from behalf of Edelweiss Foundation. The two events from the villages Sagaidac and Ciucur-Mingir,which took place in the framework of “For the book of Moldova” campaign, gathered together schoolchildren, parents, teachers and representatives of Edelweiss Foundation. Edelweiss Foundation’s representatives talked about the importance of education in local communities and about the investment in future, mainly about the significance of books in the development process of young generation.

The library of Ciucur-Mingir village, Cimislia region, contains 200 books, most of which are printed in Cyrillic. Up to the present moment, due to poverty, the readers had to share a book between two or even three people. Just before the beginning of a new school year, children are happy to have the required literature in place. “The books of Romanian Language are very few, each pupil owns half a book”, mentioned Vasile Surdu , the principal of Ciucur – Mingir gymnasium.

Because the gymnasium budget does not allow purchasing new literature, the school principal filed a request to Edelweiss Foundation. The reaction followed immediately. 250 new books in Romanian language were delivered today to the library. As a sign of gratitude, the pupils offered an amazing show of songs and poetry to the representatives of Edelweiss Foundation. They have also made a present, which was a collection of poetry writings by Liuba Dumitru, a XX century writer, who was born in Ciucur-Mingir village.

Another 250 school books were donated to the gymnasium of Sagaidac village, in the framework of a similar action.

In the framework of “For the book of Moldova” campaign; the books of Dumitru Matcovschi, Ion Druţă, Mihai Eminescu and Ion Luca Caragiale will reach twenty other communities.
