
For the school year 2009-2010, the Edelweiss Foundation awarded merit-based scholarships with a total value of 24,000 lei for the pupils of the Prometheus Theoretical Lyceum, Grozesti village, Nisporeni district.
The Prometheus Theoretical Lyceum was established in 1985 as a middle school, while in 2002 it was re-organized into a Theoretical Lyceum. This institution is a dynamic and progressive educational establishment, made remarkable by the achievements of its students, as well as by the enthusiastic efforts of its teaching staff. The lyceum consists of 320 pupils divided into 15 classes: six in primary school, six in secondary school and four lyceum classes with 2 types of profiles: humanitarian and science. The lyceum’s students take part in various local, regional and national competitions, and score successes every year.
In order to motivate the pupils to achieve better academic results and participate in extra-curricular activities, the Edelweiss Foundation together with the teaching staff of the Prometheus Lyceum have launched a scholarship program to award students who achieved remarkable results during the school year. In the framework of the 2010 scholarship program, 12 students of the lyceum have been awarded scholarships and premiums. At the primary school level: Sidor Stela, IVth grade received a 1,000 lei award, GPA: 9.9; Alexandra Botnari (IIIrd grade) and Madalina Leuca (IInd grade) received a 500 lei award (2nd and 3rd place). At the secondary school level: Anastasia Rusu, IXth grade received a 1,000 lei award, GPA: 10; 500 lei (2nd and 3rd place) awarded to Mihaela Mernal (VIth grade) and Ana Marza (IXth grade). Malvina Popescu, Stela Marza and Alina Mocanu who are enrolled in lyceum clases, received awards as well.
Also, three graduating students (Alexandrina Tofan, Serghei Ciobanu and Ion Gherjavschi) received academic scholarships worth 6,000 lei each. Another student, Ion Gherjavschi has been awarded a special monthly scholarship worth 1,250 lei for the 2010-2011 academic year .
The award ceremony was organized on May 31st, 2010 by the Administrative Council of the Lyceum, which also selected the nominees. As a follow-up activity, the Edelweiss Foundation together with the teaching staff organized a series of extra-curricular activities and a summer camp for the pupils of the primary school of the Lyceum.
