The Edelweiss caravan, involved in the program of books donation throughout the country for the second year in a row, reached the Southern regions. Thus, the Edelweiss Foundation donated 600 books to the students of four schools from the Cahul region, following the principles of the campaign “For the book of Moldova”.

“It is a beautiful thing to know Eminescu, however it is sad to find out about him only from the stories told by parent and school teachers. Unfortunately it is happening in the majority of Moldovan villages, where the library shelves are rather empty, and the remaining available books are printed in Cyrillic or even in Russian. We are trying to change the situation in those libraries”, declared Lara Castravet, Project Coordinator at Edelweiss Foundation.

The school libraries of four villages – Giurgiulesti, Baurci Moldoveni, Tataresti and Caslita Prut, received 150 volumes of books each. It is the second year of the activity of the successful campaign “For the book of Moldova”, having the main objective to supply the rural libraries with books. Last summer, students from the same region of Cahul, namely Andrusul de Susu village, received books printed in Latin script.

“The Campaign For the book of Moldova 2012 is a first step towards the road to performance of our students. The necessity in books is huge, not only in the area of education, therefore in our opinion; any consideration of help is a valuable investment in the future. I truly hope that the books will help the students of these schools to open new directions in life!”, added Lara Castravet, Project Coordinator at Edelweiss Foundation.

The start of the Campaign “For the Book of Moldova” was given last summer, on the initiative of the founder of Edelweiss Foundation, Vlad Plahotniuc.

Until today, more than 20 settlements of our country benefited from receiving more than 20 thousands of books.
