Among the 40 elderly people under the care within the campaign there is Vera Onica. She is 77 years old, she lives in the Micleuseni village and despite the difficult conditions she lives in we found her smiling and cheerful, detached for a few minutes from the poverty that burdens her life.
Ten years ago the woman lost her only support when her husband died. Troubles were legion, and after her house collapsed she remained without home and now she is living in her friend’s house. For more than five months the woman is visited weekly by the Edelweiss Foundation’s representatives, who have become as dear to her as grandchildren.
“They shake our carpets, clean the dust, wash the doors. We always wait for them to come to our house. Thanks for all this to Mr. Vlad Plahotniuc and the guys who are taking care of us”, the beneficiary of the “Respect for seniors” campaign Vera Onica said.
Under this project 40 elderly people are visited weekly by the medical and social assistants in order to check their physical condition and also their spirits.
“Each of these old people has an impressive life story. They have so much to tell, and we have so much to learn from them. We make our visits just to remind them that they are not alone”, Lidia Cucos, the Edelweiss Executive Director said.
At the end of May the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” has launched a social project called “Respect for seniors”, which aims to support the elderly people living alone in cooperation with the Embassy of Austria to Chisinau and the “Neoumanist” Association for Education.
