In a solemn atmosphere among 2,000 dear friends we celebrated eight years to the
Edelweiss Foundation. Our evening was filled with joy, surprises, and many good
deeds.
“Year after year we grow in number, more beneficiaries, more partners, more
great-hearted people whom we those from the team of the Foundation of Vlad
Plahotniuc consider as friends”, said Lidia Cucos the Executive Director of the
“Edelweiss” Foundation.
The carollers sang carols, gladdened us and excited us.
The Gala Performance of the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” started
with a cordial song played by Amelia Uzun and Ana Cernicova. The song “Vreau
o minune” (“I want a miracle”) played by Trio Sonoris was the perfect background
to lighten the tree on the stage.
The Santa Claus Orchestra impressed all those present at “Nicolae Sulac” National
Palace, especially the little ones completing the fabulous atmosphere.
Our friend from Romania Andreea Marin was the one responsible for surprises and
good news.
The first heroes of the evening were the Costandache spouses and their three
adoptive girls from Larguta village, Cantemir district. Their story together began
three years ago when the little girls were abandoned by their biological mother.
“They were left with a saucepan with corn meal, half a bucket of water and a jar of
jam. They lived a week with it. There are three years since the girls live with us
and no one has asked about them. Our home is warmer and we are happier with
them”, said Sofia Costandache.
As a reward for their incredible gesture we offered the Costandache spouses a
check for 100,000 lei to buy furniture for their home. The girls were given dresses,
toys and stationery.
Ignat Sandulescu from the Cruglic village, Criuleni district was the birthday boy at
the concert. He probably did not imagine that on the day he would celebrate 100
years old 2,000 people would sing “Happy birthday to you!” in unison for him.
“May your life be long, be healthy, live without pain, without dangers”, Mr. Ignat
wished us.
Another case that our dwarfs have told us is the one of Bogdan Rosca, a 13-year-
old boy from Soroca, who is keen on music and plays trombone. He used an
improvised instrument, which was assembled from pieces, and he wanted a new
one. We could not fail to fulfil this wish for him, now, on Christmas Eve.
Moreover, we also offered a monthly study allowance amounting 2,000 lei for a
period of two years to continue studying at the town’s music school. Bogdan and
his mother thanked us with tears in their eyes.
Perhaps the most impressive story of the evening was the story of the Rusu family,
from Selemet village, Cimislia district.
Andreea (13 years old), Ionela (9 years old) and Elena (3 years old) have lost their
mother two months ago. Their father tries his best to take care of them, but the four
of them live in a room too small for their needs. All the girls wanted for Christmas
was their own room.
“My greatest wish - I would like to have our own room. I grow up; we all live in a
room. It’s difficult for me every morning to go to the kitchen to get dressed”,
confessed Andreea.
The Edelweiss Founder Vlad Plahotniuc offered them a gift that left them
speechless – a new house, where each of them will have his own room. A real
household extending over 19 acres with animals and birds. In addition, the girls
received books and a computer.
“Even in the most difficult moments in life, you must maintain hope, believe and
fight. I’m here to bring that dose of joy, maybe a ray of light as much as I can”,
said them Mr.Plahotniuc.
Visibly excited, the father thanked us: “I have no words. Thank you very much”.
The part of surprises and presents ended with the ode to the “Edelweiss”
Foundation. At the end of evening the famous entertainer Horia Brenciu and his
band held a great concert.
We are proud that during the eight years of activity the Foundation of Vlad
Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” has offered support to 427,709 people.
