In less than a month after the start of the “Ophthalmological Caravan” campaign more than 1,300 people from Nisporeni district have benefited from free ophthalmological consultations and glasses provided with the support of the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss”. These days it was the turn of the elderly people from Balanesti village to come in front of ophthalmologists to get a consultation. For many of them this was the first consultation of such kind, although for many years their sight is not as sharp as before and they find it difficult to read, watch television or do their everyday household work.
 
“I have a bad sight for a long time. I have never visited an ophthalmologist. My eyes are tearing and vision is cloudy”, confessed one of the old people.
 
Anastasia Chirtoaca is 58 years old and says her sight weakened because of the meticulous work she had. She worked as a needlewoman in a factory, and due to the fact that her eyes were strained her eyesight deteriorated in recent years. She tells us that now everything has become clearer because of the glasses she received from the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss”. She wanted to thank the Edelweiss founder for this extraordinary gift he offers to the retired people, who otherwise would not have the opportunity for this.
 
“I really had a weak sight, very weak. Now even the figures from the phone numbers are big, I see them from distance. Vlad Plahotniuc struggles for us and supports us. He supports the people, and the people will support him, God bless him”, said an old lady.
 
All consultations in Balanesti were conducted with joy in eyes and voices. The old people remembered also other campaigns the Foundation is conducting for people and even other initiatives promoted by Vlad Plahotniuc. “Yes, we are really grateful to Mr. Plahotniuc for his care for us. He is a very good man; tell him we wholeheartedly thank him. We want to see him every time he comes to tell him that he is the man who is doing something for our country, for people”. “Hail to Mr. Plahotniuc, he made the roads for us, gives us glasses. We thank him for his care”, said the old people.
 
The consultations are provided by doctors from Chisinau, which will reach by the end of the year every village of the Nisporeni district.
 
The campaign is also appreciated by the local authorities, especially since there is no specialized cabinet in each village, and if people wanted to visit an ophthalmologist or obtain glasses, they not only had to spend money but also make a trip to the town.
 
“This initiative is well thought, organized. We are thankful. Such medical services are very necessary for old people and so much the better they are helped with glasses to improve their eyesight”, said the Mayor of Balanesti village Grigore Pirtac.
 
“This is a project that targets all people who have reached or are older than 57 years old. The professional doctors provide free ophthalmological consultations and we offer them glasses. We carry out this project with great pleasure in all the villages of Nisporeni district. Subsequently, the campaign will be extended”, said the Executive Director of the Edelweiss Foundation Lidia Cucos in Balanesti.
