Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” brings some happiness into the lives of the elderly

Maria Sargu is 80 years old. The old lady says that loneliness has been tormenting her for many years, and the only relief are the Foundation’s mobile team assistants, which visit her every week providing her the necessary care and assistance. “We read her blood pressure to see her health condition and then we do the cleaning. Every time we come to Mrs. Maria she is waiting for us at the gate”, medical assistant Valeria Stanciu said.
Another pensioner visited today by the Edelweiss team was Matriona Garabagiu. The 85-year-old woman hardly moves, therefore the help she receives is very welcomed. “It is very good, much funnier, there is someone to change a word with, they bring me a pail of water, sweep the floor. I thank them very much. God send them health”, Mrs. Matriona said.
“We are extremely proud of this project because this way we can take care of the 40 old people who being left alone on the threshold of old age deserve to enjoy our attention and care” Lidia Cucos said, the Edelweiss Foundation Executive Director.
The “Respect for seniors” campaign was launched in May this year by the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” in cooperation with the Embassy of Austria to Chisinau and the “Neoumanist” Association for Education and is primarily aiming to support the elderly living alone. Thus, 40 elderly people from Straseni district will receive medical assistance and home care, as well as social assistance services.
The “Respect for seniors” campaign initiated by the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” will last nine months.
