In August, Edelweiss Foundation interfered in urgently solving two socially vulnerable cases involving the lives of two children: 13 years old Nicolae and a 4 year old Dumitru.

In July 2013, Nicolae Rijac was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia L1. Fortunately, this type of leukemia has a 90% treatment positive outcome. The boy is at his second stage of treatment out of three necessary stages and the healing process is satisfactory. Unfortunately, all of the above stages are not possible without “Oscanpar” medicine, as Nicolae faced an allergy to the common treatment prescribed in such cases. Edelweiss Foundation’s Board of Directors promptly reacted to the call for assistance and the medicine has been already ordered from Germany. The treatment is ongoing at present and in about two months Nicolae will be able to go home.

In the second case, Edelweiss Foundation financially assisted the 4 year old Dumitru Gore, who was diagnosed with congenital heart disease. On July 31, 2013 he had a heart surgery. The boy is in the recovery stage. Ira Gore, the child’s mother was endlessly happy to get Edelweiss’s good piece of news: “I was pleasantly surprised to get a call from Edelweiss Foundation to find out that our request was granted. I am extremely grateful for the help and to be able from now on to buy all the necessary medicines required in this rehabilitation period”.

Edelweiss Foundation is a non-governmental, non for profit and apolitical organization, founded by the businessman Vlad Plahotniuc. The goal of the organization is the creation of equal opportunities for talented and disadvantaged people of the Republic of Moldova. In the period of 2010-2013 Edelweiss sponsored over 35 surgeries for people in need, 30 of which were children.
