In memoriam Igor Vieru

His work count about 70 paintings and 12 collections of book illustrations.

His work count about 70 paintings and 12 collections of book illustrations. Among the most remarkable works stand out the following: “Spring”, “Home village”, “Ballad of the earth”, “Autumn”, “Holliday in Cernoleuca”, “Master Manole”, tale books illustration “Pacala and Tandala”, “Harap Alb”, “The Goat with three kids”, “Guguta”, “Fat Frumos and the Sun”, etc.
Recently, the Vieru family addressed the Edelweiss Foundation with the request to help the wife of the painter, Ms. Maria Vieru, with a financial support for her to be able to visit her husband’s grave for Easter. After the death of the great artist, his family made everything possible for his works to be recognized around the world. Nowadays, in the painter’s home village Cernoleuca, Edinet, located 210 km away to the North from Chisinau, there is a museum, where the visitors are able to feel the art of Igor Vieru. In Chisinau was opened a Republican boarding-school “Igor Vieru”, where very often everyone can witness exhibitions of his most remarkable works.
Despite the fame of her husband, Ms. Maria Vieru has only a small pension which does not provide a decent living. She was extremely happy to have as guest the Edelweiss team on Easter holidays Eve. They came to offer their financial support to Ms. Vieru and help her visit her husband’s grave and buy everything necessary to celebrate Easter.
The edelweiss Foundation is profoundly thankful to Ms. Maria Vieru for the book she offered as a gesture of gratitude “The Bird in Alert”, by Lucia Purice, which contains more than 200 letters written by Igor Vieru to his parents.
