The fourth winning project of the Contest for the Modernization of Moldovan Villages was inaugurated today by the representatives of the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss”.

The spring with drinking water from Meseni village, Rezina district, which stood derelict for over 40 years, was set up under the “Village of the Future” national project.

More than 200 locals have participated today in the sanctification of the spring. They confessed that they used to come early in the morning to take home the clean water that comes from a depth of several tens of meters. “It’s beautiful, may God give water and it will be more beautiful. We’ll take care of it to be clean, we’ll put flowers. It’s made to be beautiful in the village, the water is expensive”, one of the villagers present at the event said.

The representatives of the local administration also thanked for the project’s support and stated that this spring is a blessing not only for those who live in the village, but also for dozens of passers-by. “There have been several projects that needed attention, including the spring. We proposed the spring because it was in a disastrous state. With this initiative we want to ensure people with free access to quality drinking water”, the mayor of the village Efim Mardari said.

In turn, the Edelweiss Foundation Executive Director Lidia Cucos showed that such initiatives are extremely important for the villages in our country. “The Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” supports all the beautiful initiatives. Water well maintenance, spring cleaning are part of ancient traditions close to our national values that define us as a people”.

“Village of the Future” Project Contest started this year on March 3. Overall, 42 plans were submitted. The jury selected five of them, and the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” allocated one million lei to finance them. By supporting these local development projects the Foundation aims to encourage families in our country to build a future here at home, in Moldova.
