Vlad Plahotniuc’s “Edelweiss” Foundation launches new social project to support mothers and children in the Republic of Moldova. Starting today, July 12 Edelweiss began to distribute boxes with products for newborns at the Maternity Hospital within the Institute of Mother and Child from Chisinau.

Each box with products for the newborns contains a set of items necessary to take care of babies in their first months of life, such as disposable diapers, cotton bodysuits, special detergent for baby clothes, nasal aspirator, solutions and unguents recommended for the first months after birth, a pacifier. Also, the box includes specially made mattress and a blanket. “It’s a novelty that the mattress can be used in the box where we have gathered all the products that we offer to the mothers… Practically, during the first months of his life the baby can sleep safely on the mattress provided with this box and we believe that this may be convenient for mothers as well”, explained the Executive Director of Edelweiss Foundation, Lara Moraru.

The boxes with products for the newborns will be provided by Edelweiss to all the children born at the Maternity Hospital within the Institute of Mother and Child. Today, by launching this project the first 60 boxes were donated for all the babies from the Maternity. Further, this aid will be offered at each birth.
“It is an extraordinarily idea! I thank the initiators on behalf of all the mothers. I thank them also on behalf of the mothers who received today this box with products for the first time, but also on behalf of those who would receive this gift, because a big number of mothers will get a nice surprise at the birth of their children”, said emotionally Mariana, aged 28 years, who is one of the first beneficiaries of this social project.

This initiative of the Vlad Plahotniuc’s Foundation is inspired by a similar practice welcomed by the mothers from many countries around the world. Similar kits are provided at birth within the national support programs for mothers and children in countries such as Finland and Canada.

In the Republic of Moldova the project announced today by Edelweiss will be held at least until the end of the year under the slogan “A New Life”. “We run this new social project at the Institute of Mother and Child, with whom we had a great cooperation in past. Practically, after unprecedented repair works that took place at the Maternity Hospital supported by Edelweiss through the “Revive Moldova” Campaign, we continue our cooperation through these donations for the newborns. Vlad Plahotniuc’s Foundation is constantly concerned about the support of mothers and children, therefore we try to come up with newer and newer social projects bringing concrete benefits to the families from the Republic of Moldova”, said the Edelweiss representatives.
