Nine thousand boxes with gifts for newborns were distributed within “A new life” social campaign in support of young families. The campaign was initiated by the Edelweiss Foundation in July of 2016 and targeted at the first stage children born in the Maternity department of the Institute of Mother and Child from Chisinau. In April of 2017 the initiative was extended to other three maternities of the country: Nisporeni, Edinet and Cahul.  

The young mothers who brought babies into this world in these maternity hospitals enjoyed the support offered by the Foundation, especially since taking care of a newborn involves much family expenditure. “A new life” box contains a set of products necessary for children in the first months of their life: a blanket, a mattress, diapers, wet wipes, shampoo, a nasal aspirator, colic drops, baby porridge and puree, baby bodysuits and a plush toy. 

“This help is very important for us, especially since it is first child. There is much we are not aware of: what to do, what not to do. He also received the first toy in his life, it is very cute, a bear. I’m sure the bear will become his best friend. Thank you very much!”, a young mother benefiting from the social project told us.

Thanks and gratitude received from mothers is an incentive for the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” to continue the project:
“We are happy that we can give joy and help mothers at the beginning of this road. We also thank all of our partners who joined us in the campaign and with whom we have such a beautiful cooperation”, the Executive Director of the Edelweiss Foundation Lidia Cucos said. 

The initiative of the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” was inspired by a similar practice, which was well-received by mothers from many countries in the world. Such boxes are provided at birth within national support programs for mothers and children in countries such as Finland and Canada.
