The “Ophthalmological Caravan” project implemented by the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” has visited the Cioresti village, Nisporeni district. As in the other localities of the district visited so far here the ophthalmology specialists also consulted the villagers who wanted to get their eyesight examined and, where appropriate, receive free o charge a pair of glasses.
Dumitru Marin is a retiree, he is 68 years old and says that for as long as he can remember he had problems with eyes. He came to Caravan for a consultation, but he did not believe that a pair of suitable glasses would change so much the way he sees everything.
“I came to the doctor, and I am grateful for the glasses and for my eyesight recovered. I thank Mr. Vlad Plahotniuc, he took care of us, the citizens, the elderly people in order we could see better”, said the retiree.
People enjoy the arrival of the caravan in their village, especially as they can be consulted for free and no longer need to go to the town.
“It’s much better here in the village, we don’t have to set off on the road. Now we go after the glasses. Thanks a lot to Mr. Vlad Plahotniuc for his help. It is a great joy for people”.
The “Ophthalmological Caravan” Campaign is aimed at people over 57 years of age in the Nisporeni district. Everyone can benefit from free consultations provided by the ophthalmology specialists came from Chisinau.
“Thanks to them for coming to our village, to see what the old people are doing and how they live. These glasses will help me to read a little, when I will have spare time. Thanks a lot, God bless him to continue to take care of the rural people”.
Since the beginning of the campaign 2,200 people had benefited from free of charge ophthalmology consultations and glasses, for many of them this was the first visit to an ophthalmologist after a long period of time.
“In one of the eyes something appears like fog, like smoke. For a long time… I have not examined my eyesight for many years. I cannot go to the town, I’m after surgery and I cannot go, I need transport”, confessed to the doctors one of the patients.
The mayor of the village has thanked the Edelweiss team and the doctors for the support that this campaign represents for the elderly people of the locality.
“The people are satisfied. This is a very good and long-hoped-for the citizens action. If it were not for this event, people would never have gone to check their eyesight. I am grateful to the donors, to the Edelweiss Foundation and personally to Mr. Plahotniuc for such a very good initiative”, said the Mayor of the Cioresti village Valeriu Gutu.
By the end of the year the “Ophthalmological Caravan” will reach every village in the Nisporeni district. After visiting the Cioresti village the doctors’ team will go to the Balauresti village, Nisporeni district.
“Among the beneficiaries of the campaign there are people who have not previously benefited from ophthalmic services. We are glad that we were able to ensure their access to the doctor and help make their lives easier. We see that they leave this place satisfied, which is very important to us. This fact encourages us to continue this campaign, and we intend even to expand it, since the joy of these people is also a joy for us, the team of the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc”, said the Executive Director of the Edelweiss Foundation Lidia Cucos.
