The Nisporeni town is the destination where the campaign of the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” will stay until December 19. Together with a team of specialist doctors we expect all people over the age of 57 to benefit from free ophthalmic services within the campaign.

The 71-year-old retired Ilie Popa was extremely excited to be consulted by doctor Eugen Bendelic, who was the one to operate him four years ago. He sincerely thanked us for the consultation and for the new pair of glasses, and we saw tears of joy in his eyes.
“The purpose of the project, as well as that of the Edelweiss Foundation is to help patients who need specialized medical assistance. Simultaneously with consultation data on intraocular pressure is also collected, which is extremely important and will undoubtedly be helpful in the diagnosis of patients with vision disorders”, said Eugen Bendelic Head of Ophthalmology Department within the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu”.

Maria Axente is 72 years old; she is from Nisporeni town and she says that all her life she worked as accountant at the Computation Centre. Due to working with figures her eyes get tired over the years and now she has poor eyesight. Besides a consultation she received a pair of spectacles from the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc.
“It’s great that doctors came from Chisinau. We are very pleased, of course, it’s not so easy for us pensioners to go to Chisinau. I am very glad to receive free glasses”, said Mrs. Axente.

Other beneficiaries also appreciated our foundation’s gesture.
“Thank you very much for what you do for us, we do not have enough health and we need glasses”, “It’s great, I have nothing to say, free spectacles and make us see better”, “It’s very good, bravo, God bless Mr. Plahotniuc, we are so grateful to him”, confessed some of our beneficiaries after consultations.

We and our partners from the Centre for Medical and Social Rehabilitation for People with low vision “LOW VISION” have initiated this campaign out of the wish that Moldovan elderly enjoy the comfort of a good vision.
“Care and respect for the elderly is one of the objectives of the Edelweiss Foundation and the founder Mr. Vlad Plahotniuc. Thus, we really want to see our grandparents healthy, we want to see them next to us for many years, and it is very important that they feel care and respect on behalf of the younger generation since they fully deserve this attention”, said the Executive Director of the Edelweiss Foundation Lidia Cucos.

“It is such an important project and it is impressive that so many people have been consulted, and so many people have received glasses. I know that up to now, about five to six thousand people have been consulted and they all received glasses”, said Hans Born Bakketeyn, vice-president of the “Hjelp Moldova” Organization from Norway.

The “Ophthalmological caravan” started on September 17 and already reached all the villages of the Nisporeni district. From the beginning until now, 6,000 people over 57 years old have been consulted.
