Vlad Plahotniuc at the inauguration of the Dumitru Matcovschi’s monument: “I fondly remember our conversations; he was a man who marked me”
29 June 2016A monument dedicated to Dumitru Matcovschi was inaugurated today in the poet’s native village, Vadul-Rascov, Soldanesti district. The Edelweiss Foundation was one of the main sponsors of the monument and the event, which has supported the writer during the last years of his life.

The ceremony was attended by almost 200 people – relatives, friends and fellow villagers of Dumitru Matcovschi, along with the Minister of Culture Monica Babuc, the founder of Edelweiss Vlad Plahotniuc, the representatives of the Academy of Science of Moldova, the heads of local public authorities.
The monument was erected with the help of several supporters at the initiative of the family of Dumitru Matcovschi. His son in law the journalist Leonid Smolnitchi thanked everyone – the Edelweiss Foundation and personally Vlad Plahotniuc for their contribution to immortalization of the poet in his native village.
On this occasion Vlad Plahotniuc said that the Edelweiss Foundation will continue to promote Dumitru Matcovschi’s work.
“Henceforth, here in the native village of Dumitru Matcovschi we have a monument erected to honour the memory of this great writer of our nation. I’m glad we managed to gather together on this occasion his, friends, fellow villagers, his family members, people who appreciate and admire his work. I have personally known Dumitru Matcovschi. I fondly remember our conversations, he was a man whom I greatly appreciated and who marked me. I think he was a pillar of the culture of the Republic of Moldova”, said the fonder of Edelweiss, who was present today in the native village of the late poet.
Also, the Minister of Culture Monica Babuc spoke about the major impact Dumitru Matcovschi had in consolidation of the national cultural identity. “I am happy to witness this historic event through which even today we find ourselves near Dumitru Matcovschi. He was a man who inspired us all to have courage”, said Monica Babuc.
Together with his nephew and the classmate of Dumitru Matcovschi the Minister of Culture unveiled the monument dedicated to the poet, at a ceremony on the third anniversary of the poet’s death.
