More than 300 retired people from Siscani village, Nisporeni district benefited from free ophthalmological consultations. Where specialists decided as necessary, people also got the suitable eyeglasses.
The old people we have met here were very happy about the chance they have to get their eyesight tested. They confessed that until now the only time when they wore eyeglasses were either taken from other people or purchased from the market without prior consultation.
“We came to get the eyeglasses. I had no glasses until today; I wore some several times from other people. It’s very nice that they came; here is Mr. Plahotniuc, the Edelweiss Foundation. We are very pleased”.
“The glasses I have now are bought from the market, without any consultation, according to my eyesight. And now we have a great opportunity to come and get consultation from the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc. Thank you very much and we are very happy”.
At 69 years old Mrs. Silvia Rosat as well received a pair of glasses and told us how delighted she is about the fact that from now on she can read even the words written with small letters.
“I really wanted to read the instruction leaflet to a pill and the doctor told me that hand lens should be used, it could not be read with ordinary spectacles. They prescribed me glasses and I am waiting”.
The retired people from Siscani consider the Edelweiss campaign as an extraordinary occasion for those who have no possibility to go to the town to get a consultation from an ophthalmologist.
“We came to test our eyesight, because specialists came; why shouldn’t we come. I have a very good opinion, this shows the attitude to the older people, especially as we do not have a doctor”.
“My heartfelt thanks to doctors and all the workers who work here. And the glasses are good for me. I see very well with them, thank you very much”.
The importance of the project can be seen in the large number of people who needed these consultations and which they could not afford. Medical resident Alina Brinza says that many of the patients who are consulted need glasses and she is happy to help in this way the old people to see better.
“There are a lot of patients who need namely reading glasses. Of all those whom we consult, a lot of people need surgical treatment of such illnesses as cataract, which is the most common now. Meeting these patients we offer recommendations. We are glad that we can and have the possibility to help the old people, who unfortunately have no access to our ophthalmic medical services”.
“We are also pleased with the fact that the citizens come and receive consultations, and so to say, with the climate offered by the specialists came from Chisinau. Thanks to the “Edelweiss” Foundation and its President Mr. Vlad Plahotniuc”, said the Mayor of Siscani village Vladimir Bodeanu.
The people from Nisporeni district appreciate our campaign and want to know as soon as possible when it arrives in their locality.
“The Ophthalmological Caravan continues. We have already travelled 19 villages in the Nisporeni district. We are going to reach all the villages by the end of the project. We are glad that people write to us, call us, ask when we will come to their locality. This project targets people who have reached 57 years old. We want to know them to be healthy, that is why we initiated this project. We are waiting for them to see the ophthalmologist to benefit from free medical consultations with the subsequent release of glasses”, said the Executive Director of the Edelweiss Foundation Lidia Cucos.
Around 3,300 people have so far benefited from the campaign of the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss”. By the end of the year the “Ophthalmological Caravan” will arrive in every locality in the Nisporeni district. Next stop: Zberoaia village.
