The first playground meant for children with disabilities was inaugurated in Chisinau, which is something new for the Republic of Moldova. Playing facilities for children with disabilities are specifically designed for them having special access routes, sliding boards and fixed bridges. This special park is part of the Vlad Pahotniuc’s “Edelweiss” Foundation project, which involves installation of 40 playgrounds in several town of the country.

“We are very happy we managed to implement this special project. The playground is not designed exclusively for children with disabilities, and includes classic sliding boards. Therefore, we invite all the children to come and enjoy the new playground”, said Lara Moraru, Executive Director of the Vlad Pahotniuc’s “Edelweiss” Foundation.

The park’s inauguration was held in the presence of several children, who came accompanied by their parents or grandparents. Sabina is nine years and since birth is suffering from multiple diseases. By now, the girl went to the park, but she couldn't feel comfortable and looked sadly at the inaccessible playgrounds. Now she enjoys a place where she can come with her friends, a safe playground adapted to her needs.

The opening of the first playground for children with special needs also gladdened their parents who think that this kind of gestures represent an important step against discrimination often faced by their little ones.
By this time, eight playgrounds for children were installed within the “Edelweiss Parks” Project.
