The social canteen from Zimbreni village, Ialoveni region, was inaugurated today with the support of Edelweiss Foundation for the Development of the Republic of Moldova. The event gathered together the Founder of Edelweiss Foundation, Vlad Plahotniuc, local authorities and representatives of the Regional Department of Social Assistance, as well as tens of people from disadvantaged families.
“ Such social projects should be implemented in the majority of the villages from the Republic of Moldova, as social canteens represents the minimum of the assistance that the local authorities have to render to the citizens who cannot support themselves”, mentioned Vlad Plahotniuc, the Founder of Edelweiss Foundation.
Plahotniuc said that “Edelweiss Foundation always responds to the cry for help, especially when it concerns such a wide group of people. The idea of opening a social canteen seemed to be extremely necessary and we are happy that we can contribute to the support of this project. As a Foundation, we will contribute to support such projects in other regions as well”.
He also mentioned: “Unfortunately our village is not capable to ensure all the needs of their citizens and is nor economically sound to do so. Therefore, the socio-economic situation pushes the local authorities to seek for alternative solutions, to look for grants and attract investments.”
Due to Edelweiss Foundation’s support more than 100 people from disadvantaged families from Zimbreni village will have access to the social canteen.
