Vera Vasilica is 69 years old and lives alone in her house in Scoreni village, Straseni district. She never had a family, and in old age she feels ever more depressed without children and grandchildren. She says she is always thinking how it would have been to have dear people to pass her threshold at least for the holidays. One year since they first time visited her within the “Respect for seniors” campaign the members of the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” became family for her which she wanted to have all her life. Before that, only neighbours alleviated her loneliness. They talked sometimes, but no one took care of her, nor about her health, or about her household.
Although she has worked more than half of her life in the field of construction, Vera’s great passion are the flowers in her garden, which she grows with great love.
The Edelweiss team members visited again Mrs. Vera recently, as they do every week, helping her with the housework, bringing her food and medicine. This time, however, they prepared an extra surprise. They have seen how much she loves her flowers and that not all of them have survived the winter, so they have decided to restore her garden and return to life her favourite plants.
The old woman has very much enjoyed the most beautiful gift she could ever receive and decided to show and tell the Edelweiss team about all the varieties she has in the garden.
“That peony is red, that one is also red, and this one is pink. These are my tulips. Here I have narcissi, there are two varieties: that one is yellow, and this one is a bit lighter”.
The old woman’s neighbours are grateful to the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc for the care they manifest toward Mrs. Vera, but also toward other elderly people left alone.
For the Edelweiss team as well these old people of whom they take care under the “Respect for seniors” campaign became close, like relatives.
“Like other beneficiaries she is very dear to us. She is an extremely warm woman who always awaits us with an open heart. We knew that Mrs. Vera likes them a lot and we really wanted to buy namely Geraniums”, said Lidia Cucos the Executive Director of the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc.
The “Respect for seniors” campaign was launched by the Foundation of Vlad Plahotniuc “Edelweiss” in 2017 in cooperation with the Embassy of Austria and “Neoumanist” Association. Under this project 40 elderly people from Straseni district living alone and without support receive food packages and healthcare at home.
